Psalms 47 ASV

Summary: An enthronement hymn meant for jubilant, clapping worship, Psalm 47 announces that "God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet" (v. 5), likely reflecting a liturgical procession of the ark. It proclaims the LORD not merely Israel's God but "a great King over all the earth," who "reigns over the nations" and sits "on his holy throne" (v. 2, 7-8). It closes with a striking image of unity, the princes of the peoples gathering "as the people of the God of Abraham" (v. 9).
