Psalms 146 DBY

Summary: Opening the Psalter's closing group of five "Hallelujah" psalms (146-150), this psalm urges praise from personal conviction, "While I live will I praise the LORD" (v. 2), and warns against trusting in human power: "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help" (v. 3), since even their plans perish with their breath. It lists God's practical care for the vulnerable — executing judgment for the oppressed, feeding the hungry, freeing prisoners, opening the eyes of the blind, and relieving the fatherless and widow (v. 7-9). It closes declaring "The LORD shall reign for ever... Praise ye the LORD" (v. 10).

Hallelujah! Praise Jehovah, O my soul.

As long as I live will I praise Jehovah; I will sing psalms unto myGod while I have my being.

Put not confidence in nobles, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.

His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his purposes perish.

Blessed is he who hath theGod of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in Jehovah hisGod,

Who made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is therein; who keepeth truth for ever;

Who executeth judgment for the oppressed, who giveth bread to the hungry. Jehovah looseth the prisoners;

Jehovah openeth [the eyes of] the blind; Jehovah raiseth up them that are bowed down; Jehovah loveth the righteous;

Jehovah preserveth the strangers; he lifteth up the fatherless and the widow; but the way of the wicked doth he subvert.

Jehovah will reign for ever, [even] thyGod, O Zion, from generation to generation. Hallelujah!
