Psalms 43 DBY

Summary: Widely read as the concluding third stanza of Psalm 42 (it lacks its own heading and shares its refrain), Psalm 43 pleads for God to "vindicate me" against an "ungodly" and "deceitful" nation (v. 1) and to act as advocate in what reads like a legal dispute. Its central request asks for guided pilgrimage back to worship, "send out your light and your truth; let them lead me... to your dwelling!" (v. 3), envisioning renewed access to the altar and the joy of praise with the lyre. It closes with the same self-address as Psalm 42, urging the downcast soul to hope in God (v. 5).

1Judge me, OGod, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation; deliver me from the deceitful and unrighteous man.

2For thou art theGod of my strength: why hast thou cast me off? why go I about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

3Send out thy light and thy truth: they shall lead me, they shall bring me to thy holy mount, and unto thy habitations.

4Then will I go unto the altar ofGod, unto theGod of the gladness of my joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, OGod, myGod.

5Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope inGod; for I shall yet praise him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and myGod.
