Psalms 121 GNV

Summary: A beloved Song of Ascents built on the image of a pilgrim looking toward the hills surrounding Jerusalem, opening "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help" (v. 1), then answering that help comes not from the hills themselves but "from the LORD, which made heaven and earth" (v. 2). It repeatedly stresses God's unceasing watchfulness — "he that keepeth thee will not slumber... he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep" (v. 3-4) — promising protection from sun by day and moon by night. It closes assuring that the LORD will preserve the traveler's "going out and thy coming in, from this time forth, and even for evermore" (v. 8).

A song of degrees. I will lift mine eyes vnto the mountaines, from whence mine helpe shall come.

Mine helpe commeth from the Lord, which hath made the heauen and the earth.

He wil not suffer thy foote to slippe: for he that keepeth thee, will not slumber.

Beholde, he that keepeth Israel, wil neither slumber nor sleepe.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shadow at thy right hand.

The sunne shall not smite thee by day, nor the moone by night.

The Lord shall preserue thee from all euil: he shall keepe thy soule.

The Lord shall preserue thy going out, and thy comming in from henceforth and for euer.
