Psalms 70 GNV
Summary: A short, urgent plea for immediate help, Psalm 70 repeats, with only minor changes, the closing verses of Psalm 40 (40:13-17) as a freestanding psalm headed "to bring to remembrance." Its opening cry sets the tone for the whole piece, "O God, make haste to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me!" (v. 1), a refrain repeated at its close (v. 5). It contrasts a wish for enemies to be "turned back and brought to dishonor" with a wish that those who seek God rejoice and continually say, "God is great!" (v. 2-4).
1To him excelleth. A Psalme of David to put in remembrance. O God, haste thee to deliuer mee: make haste to helpe me, O Lord.
2Let them be confounded and put to shame, that seeke my soule: let them bee turned backewarde and put to rebuke, that desire mine hurt.
3Let them be turned backe for a rewarde of their shame, which said, Aha, aha.
4But let all those that seeke thee, be ioyfull and glad in thee, and let all that loue thy saluation, say alwaies, God be praised.
5Nowe I am poore and needie: O God, make haste to me: thou art mine helper, and my deliuerer: O Lord, make no tarying.
