Psalms 128 WBT

Summary: A Song of Ascents pronouncing blessing on "every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways" (v. 1), promising he will eat the fruit of his own labor and be happy. Its central images are domestic and agricultural: a wife "as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house," and children "like olive plants round about thy table" (v. 3). It closes extending the blessing across generations, envisioning the man seeing "thy children's children, and peace upon Israel" (v. 6).

1A Song of degrees. Blessed [is] every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

2For thou shalt eat the labor of thy hands: happy [shalt] thou be, and [it shall be] well with thee.

3Thy wife [shall be] as a fruitful vine by the sides of thy house: thy children like olive plants around thy table.

4Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

5The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

6Yes, thou shalt see thy children's children, [and] peace upon Israel.
