Psalms 67 WBT

Summary: A brief harvest thanksgiving psalm with an unusually outward-facing, almost missionary horizon, Psalm 67 asks for God's blessing not for its own sake but "that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations" (v. 1-2). Its refrain calls for "all the peoples" to praise God twice over (v. 3, 5), envisioning the nations being glad and singing for joy because God judges the peoples with equity. It closes tying the request full circle, that God's blessing of the harvest, "the earth has yielded its increase," will lead "all the ends of the earth" to fear him (v. 6-7).

1To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm [or] Song. God be merciful to us, and bless us; [and] cause his face to shine upon us. Selah.

2That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.

3Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

4O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

5Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.

6[Then] shall the earth yield her increase; [and] God, [even] our own God, will bless us.

7God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
