Job 25 WYC

Summary: Bildad offers a brief third and final speech, much shorter than his earlier ones, simply extolling God's dominion and majesty in the heavens, which maintain order and peace among the heavenly hosts. He asks rhetorically how any human being can be righteous or pure before God, noting that even the moon and stars are not pure in God's sight, so how much less a mortal, who he describes dismissively as a maggot or worm. The brevity of the speech, and the fact Zophar offers no matching third speech at all, signals that the friends' arguments are running out.

3Whether noumbre is of hise knyytis? and on whom schyneth not his liyt?

4Whether a man comparisound to God mai be iustified, ether borun of a womman mai appere cleene?

5Lo! also the moone schyneth not, and sterris ben not cleene in `his siyt;

6hou miche more a man rot, and the sone of a man a worm, is vncleene `and vile, if he is comparisound to God.
