Psalms 125 GNV

Summary: A Song of Ascents built on the geography of Jerusalem itself as an image of security: "They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever" (v. 1), and "as the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people" (v. 2). It prays that God will not let the "rod of the wicked" rest permanently over the land of the righteous, lest they be tempted toward iniquity, and closes with a benediction on "them that are upright in their hearts" (v. 4), while workers of iniquity are led away with evildoers.

1A song of degrees. They that trust in the Lord, shalbe as mount Zion, which can not be remooued, but remaineth for euer.

2As the mountaines are about Ierusalem: so is the Lord about his people from henceforth and for euer.

3For the rod of the wicked shall not rest on the lot of the righteous, least the righteous put forth their hand vnto wickednes.

4Doe well, O Lord, vnto those that be good and true in their hearts.

5But these that turne aside by their crooked wayes, them shall the Lord leade with the workers of iniquitie: but peace shalbe vpon Israel.
