Psalms 125 WBT
Summary: A Song of Ascents built on the geography of Jerusalem itself as an image of security: "They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever" (v. 1), and "as the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people" (v. 2). It prays that God will not let the "rod of the wicked" rest permanently over the land of the righteous, lest they be tempted toward iniquity, and closes with a benediction on "them that are upright in their hearts" (v. 4), while workers of iniquity are led away with evildoers.
1A Song of degrees. They that trust in the LORD, [shall be] as mount Zion, [which] cannot be removed, [but] abideth for ever.
2[As] the mountains [are] round Jerusalem, so the LORD [is] around his people from henceforth even for ever.
3For the rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.
4Do good, O LORD, to [those that] are good, and to [them that are] upright in their hearts.
5As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity: [but] peace [shall be] upon Israel.
