Psalms 15 WBT

Summary: A brief wisdom psalm structured as question and answer, Psalm 15 asks who may dwell on God's holy hill and sojourn in his tent (v. 1), then answers with an ethical checklist rather than a ritual one: walking blamelessly, speaking truth, not slandering, honoring oaths even to one's own hurt, and refusing bribes against the innocent (v. 2-5). It reflects the entrance-liturgy tradition in which worshipers were examined before approaching the sanctuary. The one who does these things, it concludes, "shall never be moved" (v. 5).

1A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3[He that] backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbor.

4In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoreth them that fear the LORD. [He that] sweareth to [his own] hurt, and changeth not.

5[He that] putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these [things] shall never be moved.
